My New Grand Adventure: Happy & Healthy!
It has been about a month since The Great Moves of 2016.

First, I moved from my house of 5 years, into an RV. Not two weeks later, I was moving my office to a new location. It was a crazy and stressful time, but I pushed through it, and I am finally able to appreciate the after-effects.

Post-move, life has settled into a peaceful time. My new office location is not only beautiful, but the other practitioners in our wellness center are warm and welcoming. They have welcomed me, and the ladies that came with me, into their place. We are able to support and blend our practices nicely, as a result. It makes work a complete joy. After so much stress, I am finally able to begin focusing on building my business and expanding complementary wellness services. I find that my marketing mind is shifting back into gear.

I also love that my office window, which runs the length of my room, opens into a nature preserve. I am gifted with nature's delights every day as I work. The coconut tree drops her fruit right outside of my window. I watch bright yellow butterflies flit about the trees, and I can just make out scarlet red hibiscus flowers through the greenery. The energy flows through my office, and my clients always remark upon how relaxing  it is in my new office.
All of this positivity has allowed me to finally shift my attention to my health. There is no way to overstate how out of shape I had become. The stress of the past couple of years had packed on the weight. I found that I would eat too much, drink too much, party too hard, and never get enough sleep. I just felt that I needed to forge ahead, and when life finally calmed down, I prayed it was not too late to undo the sins of my youth. I had already had a few warning signs with my blood sugar suddenly dropping on me. Even mild cocktails began fighting back with headaches and lethargy. Through it all, the scale stubbornly refused to reverse course.

Blessedly, my time has finally come! From past success with high-protein, low-carb diets (South Beach and Paleo), I decided to embrace a strict Atkins induction period. In the first two weeks, I dropped 12lbs, before hitting a plateau. In week 3, the scale was just hovering within a couple of ounces. After conducting some research, I discovered that this is common. After 2 weeks of steady weight-loss, the fat cells decide to hold onto water-weight in an effort to maintain their size, while the body is trying to figure out whether you are in starvation mode. I decided that a "cheat" day was in order, so I ate some chia seeds and had a Kombucha drink. The next day, I resumed my normal Atkins-induction phase. That did the trick, and over the next week, I lost an additional 8 lbs. As of today, I am up to 21 lbs lost in just over a month!

A couple of things I have been considering: one, it seems like the occasional "cheat day" keeps the body from plateauing. With that said, it is too easy to cheat with what seem like minor infractions, until you are undermining your goals. Two, it takes about 3 days to get back into ketosis after cheating, so I do not want to do this on a regular basis. I have considered maybe one day every two weeks have a little treat, like dessert, or a glass of wine, but again, I don't want to be perpetually trying to get back into ketosis. What I have decided on, is to stick with the strict diet, and when I hit a plateau, cheat with a piece of fruit, wine, dessert, etc, then immediately resume the diet. I'll have to monitor this closely. One other thing that I have been concerned with is managing the inevitable loose skin that will come with dramatic weight-loss. I have been applying scar cream on myself daily to be proactive. I would love to think that my body is still young enough that it will just snap back, but I'm taking no chances. Perhaps it is time to start a future surgery fund to get a little nip-tuck when I reach my goal.

So, all things considered, things have been great! I LOVE the positive feedback I get from my friends, family and clients. Now that the weight loss is beginning to show, the positive reinforcement keeps me motivated. I have a long journey to get where I want to be, but I feel like this has been a wonderful start for me.
