Massage Blues: Tales from the Trenches IV

It should go without saying that if you are going for a massage, it is a good idea to take a quick shower. It should definitely go without saying that if you workout first, a shower is mandatory before your massage.

One fine morning, a female client arrived somewhat late for her appointment. She appeared damp, and was wearing gym clothes, but it is common for people to dress down for their massage. Due to her late arrival, I urged her to get on the table, and I would return shortly.

After a couple of moments, I re-entered the room and sat at the head of the massage table to begin working on her neck and shoulders. It was at this point, that she apologized for her wet hair, and told me she had rushed over to her appointment after her Zumba class, and did not have time to shower.
"She apologized for her wet hair, and told me she had rushed over to her appointment after her Zumba class, and did not have time to shower."
Since I had just begun the massage, I had not yet noticed her smell. It did not take long for it to reach my nose, though. Additionally, her skin was gritty from the sweat. She reeked, and since I had already started, I couldn't really ask her to go to the restroom and clean up.

Vowing to pay closer attention in the future, I soldiered on. I will admit to a bout of nausea while she was changing positions and the smell assaulted my nose. When the massage finally ended, I rushed from the room and into the bathroom, where I lost my breakfast. The kicker was, she had forgotten her wallet, and didn't even have money for a tip. A valuable lesson was learned by me that day. Now, I always pay attention, and know when to offer the client an opportunity to shower.
