Weekly Update - Weight Lost, Calorie Restriction, Plateaus & IF

I have been zipping along here on my Keto diet since the end of April. I think it has technically been 10 weeks, now. I am up to 31 lbs lost.

It is a bit surreal.

One of the things that I have noticed is that my skin is getting softer. I'm sure that the reason is because, as I lose weight, there is less fat to plump me out. I am making sure to stay hydrated, and I know that as time goes on, it will tighten a bit. I also use lots of coconut oil to keep my skin supple.

I know that when it is all said and done, I may have excess skin. That does not mean I will stop trying to lose weight. If it is terrible, and affects my life, well, I live an hour from Miami. I'll just have to do something about it surgically. I would like to hope that isn't necessary, but only time will tell.

Looking at the picture that I posted, I can't believe that the difference has only been a few months. I wonder why it took me so long to finally just do this. I suppose part of it was life drama and the move. I suppose I finally just ran out of excuses. I can't help but think about what I will look like 6 months from now. It's exciting!

In my YouTube weekly update today, I spoke a bit about calorie restriction. Technically speaking, Keto Diet is not about calorie restriction at all. If you are hungry, please eat! You need the food to keep your energy up. What tends to happen, though, is when you are not consuming carbs, you do not have blood sugar spikes, and the high fat nature of the diet keeps you feeling sated. You just don't get as hungry!

I am very in tune with what I eat every day, because I track it on the MyFitnessPal app (feel free to connect with me on there, if you'd like). The app wants you to consume at least 1000 calories a day, but I regularly struggle to eat that much. My feeling is that, if you are hungry, please eat, but if you are not, there is no reason to force yourself.

I weigh myself every morning, so that I have a consistent tracking of my weight. I discuss this in last week's update Daily vs Weekly Keto Diet Weight Loss Tracking. I have not officially started doing Intermittent Fasting, but I do monitor how late in the evening I eat. I have noticed that if I eat after about 4 or 5, my morning weight will be impacted negatively. As such, I usually will eat about 7 or 8 am, then in the early afternoon sometime. I do not restrict what I am eating, other than making sure it is Keto friendly. This has been working well for me.

Finally, I ran across this article on the MyFitnessPal blog today. It seemed appropriate, because after the 4.5 lbs loss from last week, this week has tapered off. I'm trying to not get discouraged, but naturally, it is exciting to wake up every morning and see I've lost more. This article discusses plateaus and gives you some information to consider.
